Judith Wiersema (1968), born in Utrecht and raised in Bergen (North Holland), started with handicrafts at a young age during her secondary school years at the Bergense Scholengemeenschap. It was not until 1996 that she rediscovered her passion for sculpting at the Gooise Art Academy, where she now teaches herself.
In the early years, Judith mainly created female torsos, inspired by her personal experiences and the dilemmas of women.
Later, her work developed into a more abstract form, culminating in the "Apple Table", a sculpture with a feminine association. From this development, still lifes emerged, in which she depicted her Burgundian life and the hectic pace of everyday life.
These still lifes were often placed on tables, which led to her desire to make art functional. For example, she designed chairs and lamps that combine her recognizable style with functionality.
